An important part of Preddvor’s cultural heritage is the story of Josipina Urbančič Turnograjska—the first Slovenian female writer, poet, and composer. Her rich legacy is preserved today by the Josipina Turnograjska Memorial Room at Turn Castle in Potoče near Preddvor and the Josipina Turnograjska Cultural Society, which is headquartered at the more than 400-year-old Tavčar Homestead. The experience begins at the Tavčar Homestead, where the society carefully preserves the memory of Josipina’s life and work. Visitors are greeted by a cozy, homey atmosphere, a herb garden featuring plants that Josipina herself knew and cultivated, and refreshing herbal beverages prepared in the spirit of days gone by.
The trail then leads to Turn Castle, where Josipina grew up and wrote a significant portion of her literary works. During the approximately 25-minute walk (1.5 km) along a pleasant and easy trail, visitors learn through engaging storytelling about the life of the Urbančič family, her love story with Lovro Toman, her literary work, and the era of the Slovenian national awakening.
The tours are led by licensed tour guide Dr. Mira Delavec Touhami, certified by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Slovenia, who guides visitors not only through the story of Josipina Turnograjska but also through Preddvor and its surroundings. With her expert knowledge, love for her hometown, and storytelling, she weaves together cultural heritage, local stories, and natural landmarks into an authentic and unforgettable experience.
